Loved since the times of the pharaoh (and beyond), cats are the stars of the house, of internet videos, and of the life of those who decide to share their daily lives with them. Although they don’t need the same attention as their canine colleagues, as they are much more independent pets, pussies need some specific care since they are young, to grow healthy. If you’ve recently adopted a kitten, we give you some specific care tips to have with your feline pet. Check out!
Vaccinate is necessary
Vaccination is at the top of care for first-time owners. Cats can start taking the first vaccinations after 45 days of life. Your animal must be dewormed, without fever or diarrhea, to start the treatment. To protect them, there are three types of polyvalent vaccines.
It is necessary that your pussy takes at least three doses of vaccines, with intervals between 21 to 30 days between each. Once this process is completed, after the animal’s 4 months of life it must receive the rabies vaccine annually. To see how your cat will react to the vaccination, it is important to do all this monitoring with a veterinarian.
Hygiene
It is common to use the expression “cat bath” to indicate a quick shower, without much attention. But, going against what the phrase suggests, cats are very hygienic animals. Unlike dogs, cats do not need to bathe very often. To keep clean and prevent the proliferation of dirt on the fur, it is recommended that you bathe your cat every four or six months, in warm water and with products with a minimum of smell.
Another item that should be taken into consideration when taking care of your cat’s hygiene is the litter box. As they are extremely clean animals, cats tend not to do their necessities in dirty places. Ideally, you should clean the litter box daily to prevent strong odors from taking over the house. The frequency of total sand change will depend on your pet, but this can be done after a week or two.
Feed well
And don’t go thinking that you can feed your pet with any kind of food. Cats are known to be quite fussy about their food. You’ll have to experiment until you find one the cat will like. However, a tip is to look for rations classified as premium or superpremium, which are richer in vitamins and nutrients for the animal. Avoid plant foods as they can cling to the feline’s bowels and cause suffocation. Remember that, for each age of your pussy, there is adequate food, and neutered cats must also receive special food.
Castration
Owning an animal, especially if it’s exposed to the street, requires a lot of responsibility, including the possibility that your four-legged puppy can breed around. The neutering process in cats is very simple and easy to recover. The surgery is non-invasive, has anesthesia, and cases of allergies are quite rare. To neuter them, the ideal is that you look for a trustworthy veterinarian, but there are also free initiatives offered by volunteer groups in cities across the country.
Post-surgery, the pussy will need to keep the operated area isolated until the stitches are removed. Remember that a common side effect of neutering is weight gain, so if your cat goes through a neutering process, look for suitable feeds to avoid feline obesity.
